The suburb in one paragraph
Hamilton sits just inland from the harbour, built out between the 1890s and the 1930s on what was mining and railway land. The blocks are narrow, the houses close to the boundary, and the gardens planted a century ago by people who did not expect their trees to reach full size. They have. That mismatch is most of the tree work here.

Most of those are brittle or aggressive or both. Jacaranda and liquidambar split at tight forks in a southerly. Fig and camphor laurel roots find terracotta sewer joints, and on Hamilton's block sizes the tree and the sewer line are rarely more than a few metres apart.
The real problem is getting in and out
Hamilton is the clearest example in Newcastle of access setting the price. A tree that would be a straight fell on an acre at Cessnock becomes a full day of rigging here, because the drop zone is someone else's courtyard, the chipper is 25 metres away on Denison Street, and there is a colorbond fence, a pergola and a neighbour's glasshouse inside the fall radius.
That is normal work, not an obstacle. It is simply why the quote looks the way it does, and why it is worth reading the cost guide before comparing two numbers.
Council and approvals
Hamilton is City of Newcastle. Trees over the size threshold on private land need approval before removal or significant pruning, with the usual narrow exemptions for dead trees, listed weeds and immediate danger. Replacement planting conditions are common, and heritage conservation area status applies over parts of the suburb.

The normal setup is a chipper on the street, everything climbed and rigged, and material carried out by hand through the front.
